Biomedical Technician – Cruise Ships (m/f/x)

As VIKAND positions itself for long term growth, itโs seeking a self-starter to join them in the position of Biomedical Equipment Technician. The position is based in Hamburg, Germany but requires frequent travel throughout Europe and globally to provide support to the companyโs clients.

The primary responsibility of the Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is the maintenance of clinical equipment through the performance of inspection, assessment, testing, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of medical equipment with minimal supervision. Tools, testing equipment, laptop and other necessary items/equipment will be provided. Travel is always arranged and paid for by VIKAND. The ideal BMET will live in or near Hamburg, Germany. When not traveling the BMET will work on assigned duties, attend company virtual meetings, and provide remote technical support to clients from the Hamburg office.

Responsibilities:
- Performs inspection, assessment, testing, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of diagnostic and life support biomedical equipment per manufacturersโ recommendations as well as established guidelines for use.
- Responds appropriately to hazard recall notifications concerning medical equipment.
- Investigates equipment incidents and alerts, cases of equipment damage and abuse, equipment failure reports that cannot be duplicated and medical device security incidents.
- Use best judgement when making recommendations for when healthcare technology, instrumentation, or systems are obsolete, hazardous and/or not cost effective to maintain.
- Contact Original Equipment Manufacturer or vendors to obtain part information such as part number, pricing, and availability as required.
- Complete biomedical service visits and reports in a complete and on-time manner.
- Create, modify, update, and process various types of work orders in the VIKAND biomedical computerized maintenance management software on time and accurately.
- Provide remote technical support to customers as needed/assigned.
- Frequent travel both within Europe and internationally to provide biomedical support services including but not limited to preventative maintenance service visits, troubleshooting & repair visits, equipment installation, equipment service school/training, company held training events, and industry conferences.

Experience and Skills Required:
- Must have valid passport and are able to travel internationally as required up to 75% of the time including weekends
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English & German
- Associates degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology or Biomedical Engineering Technology OR
Bachelorโs degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology OR Completion of a military training program in biomedical equipment
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as Biomedical Equipment Technician, Field Service Engineer, Medical Equipment Repairer
- AAMI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification not required but highly desired
- AAMI Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT) certification is not required but preferred. Must be able to take and pass the CABT exam within two years of hire
- Knowledge of electronics and electricity including analog and intermediate digital electronics to test, calibrate, maintain, and repair biomedical equipment and moderately complex biomedical instrumentation systems.
- Skill in the setup and use of standard and advanced level test equipment such as digital multimeters, electrical safety analyzers, patient simulators, defibrillator analyzers, infusion pump analyzers and oscilloscopes in performing troubleshooting/repair and preventive maintenance activities.
- Ability to evaluate practical and technical information from manufacturers, contract specifications, manuals, and historical data in order to perform analysis required to make effective recommendations concerning operation, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment.
- Ability to use application software and hardware as it relates to the operation and diagnostics of medical equipment.
- Knowledge of computer equipment with a wide variety of software to input and retrieve data as required, and to prepare a variety of specific working documents and forms such as spreadsheet, database, word processing, and other similar products.
- Ability to perform testing and troubleshooting of medical devices such as defibrillators, ECG machines, patient monitors, patient beds, infusion pumps, syringe drivers, tabletop sterilizers, exam lights, and ventilators.
- Additional experience with the installation, inspection, assessment, testing, calibration and repair of Ventilators, Medical Oxygen as related to Ventilators, Syringe & Infusion Pumps, Defibrillators, Patient Monitoring Systems, Diagnostic Imaging Equipment such as Portable X-ray Systems (including CR, DR, and DICOM), Beds, and Stretchers.
